About the game
Short description (about 50 words)
Lootbox RPG is a turn-based fantasy dungeon crawler for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android and PC. Players explore handmade and randomly generated dungeons, collect loot, combine runes into spells and craft their own gear. Version 2.0 adds Chapter 2 with five new regions and lets players expand their own underground base.
Long description
Lootbox RPG is a turn-based, top-down dungeon crawler in classic pixel style. Every step counts: enemies move only when the player moves, so each fight can be planned. Players explore handmade maps and randomly generated dungeons, collect and compare loot, combine runes at the runeboard to discover spells, train skills and craft weapons, armour and potions at the workbench.
Since version 1.99, players can also dig their own base into the rock of the Forsaken Deep, hire helpers in the tavern and run production stations that turn wood, ore and herbs into boards, ingots and potions. Version 2.0 continues the story in Chapter 2, raises the level cap to 60 and lets players expand their base to level 2.
The game is a one-time purchase without in-app purchases or ads, playable fully offline and without permadeath. It is developed by a single developer in Bielefeld, Germany.
About the name
“Lootbox” refers to the loot players find in chests and on defeated enemies. The game has no paid loot boxes and no in-app purchases of any kind.
New in version 2.0
Chapter 2 is the largest update in the game's history. It ships on 19 November 2026.
Chapter 2
- Five new regions: the Desert with its pyramid, the Ancient Burial Ground, the Wildlands, the Frosty Spire and the Ruins of Tyr.
- A continuing story about an old pact, a broken seal and a crowned ruler who refused judgment.
- Level cap raised from 50 to 60.
- New creatures and bosses, among them the Shadow Prowler, the Frost Wyrm, the Banshee, the Lich of Tyr, the Grave Colossus, the Frost Warlord, the Skeleton King and the Sand Giant.
- Weather: sandstorms in the desert and snowstorms on the Frosty Spire.
Gear and magic
- New level 55–70 equipment, including the five-piece Grave King set and frost weapons such as Frostbrand and the Glacier Axe.
- Sockets and augments: rare gear has sockets for augments that raise attributes, armour or damage; offensive augments are crafted at the Enchanting Table.
- Ice magic: the Icebolt line and Frost Nova, discovered with the new ice rune.
Base expansion
- Base level 2 opens four deeper mine floors in the Forsaken Deep, stone walls and floors with a stonemason station, and a larger building area.
- A research tree, a new sawmill, a prospector who digs for finds, and a market stall where surplus is sold automatically.
- A raid on the expanded base, with walls and floors that can be fortified and repaired.
Collections
- Relics and collections, boss trophies and the full fishing collection with new fishing grounds.
- A visible day and night cycle on the overworld.
Key features
- Turn-based exploration and combat on a tile grid – enemies act only when the player acts.
- Handmade maps and randomly generated dungeons, with an autofight mode for dungeons the player has already cleared.
- Rune magic: runes combined at the runeboard reveal more than 40 spells.
- Crafting at the workbench and enchanting table.
- Base building: dig a mine, hire helpers, run production stations, build beds, chests, doors and portals.
- Companions that fight alongside the player and carry their own equipment.
- Fishing with baits, cookable fish and rare catches.
- iCloud saves and save export on iOS, pinch zoom, portrait mode on iPhone, portrait and landscape on iPad.
